The construction of the Fortress of Sagres began in 1443 by the initiative of Infante D. Henrique, when he took possession of the territories around Cabo de São Vicente, to build here a village to support the navigation along this area of ​​the Algarve coast.

In 1516, D. Fernando Coutinho, Bishop of Silves, ordered the construction of a monastery at Cabo de São Vicente, in Sagres, and to protect the place and the numerous pilgrims who sought it, a fortification was also ordered, the Fort of S. Vincent.

The Fort of Beliche, in Cabo de S. Vicente in Sagres, was built during the 16th century, in a date before 1587, since this fort is drawn on the map of this region during the attack perpetrated by Francis Drake.

With more than 30 decades of existence, this historic equipment is an important center for promoting culture among residents and visitors and a reference at the regional level.
