Tiny Stairways and Wall Art
2 day trip to the Alfama, Lisbon
The Alfama has rediscovered itself over the past few years. The only place in Lisbon that was not totally destroyed by the earthquake of 1755,
the tiny lane ways and staircases are amazing. Sometimes they are so small two people could barely pass, with plants and birdcages hanging over the balconies.
The walls are now adorned with various embellishments, from copies of ancient tiles, to wall paintings and other decorations.
Well worth a day of wandering through the Alfama to see this stunning area, filled with churches, tiny restaurants and shops. You will find this unique area just off the Rossio Square
running uphill to the St George Castle.
